Obama: "...this is your victory"!

Americans living abroad awoke this morning to images of their countrymen celebrating in the streets, images as hopeful, as optimistic as the 'velvet revolution'. The entire world heard collective sighs of relief --no stolen election, no riots, no bloodshed. The words of Lincoln are required to describe it: '...a new birth of freedom'!

This is not just Obama's victory. This win belongs to the people of the US and the world, even those poor misguided folk who had often voted GOP even when it was against their own interests to do so. Unless they had been among the nations one percent elite, it was always against their interests.

This victory belongs as well to the world, millions who often suffered, as Americans might not have, the harmful effects of Bush's vainglorious vision of empire.
The world breathed a huge sigh of relief and is now celebrating for America!

It is not going to be an easy road for President Obama, and from now until January 20, I hope his security team has been doubled, these will be the most perilous two and a half months of his life thus far.

President Obama will have to make some tough decision which might greatly disappoint a great many people, especially among his supporters, but his assignment is probably the toughest ever.

Looks like another GOP disaster has been avoided in high style. A decisive victory, that should allow us to say, "see that, Georgie boy? THAT is what REAL political capital looks like."

The long national nightmare is not yet over, but the end is in sight. I predict that Bush/Cheney will spend their remaining time in power absolutely screwing the country, trying to extract every last dime to distribute to themselves and their cronies. Not much of a prediction really, since that's what they're already doing, and have been since elected.

It would be a HUGE mistake for Obama to try to paper over the crimes committed by Bu$hCo. If the investigations aren't wide, deep and transparent the poison that is still in the blood of the American body politic could still kill the patient. You don't cure cancer without removing some corrupt flesh.

Seems there's been a sudden upturn in the fortunes of We The People.

Can't let History pass old friends by, Len, Vierotchka and Sad without dropping by to raise a toast to three who have tielessly toiled against The Tryranny.

Fan-bloody-tastic day. Huge acceptance speech and I still can't believe enough cracker-persons in IN and VA figured that their hip pocket nerves were more important than years of entrenched racism.

I had hoped and am honored to toast you this A.M., Fuzz.

It is a fan-bloody-tastic day, truly historic. British Historian Simon Schama has said this day that the era ushered in by Ronald Reagan is at an end. 'Adieu'is much too good a word to waste on Bush, his ilk, and "l'ancien regime!"

I suppose there will always be 'crackers' but they may never again count for as much.

Len , as a lifelong resident of IN, I'm proud to say that after more than 40 years, the "crackers" here finally got it right.
Now if they had just tossed Chimpy's former budget director's ass out of the governor's office in the process. . .

Haven't posted here in a long time, but I read every day.

Len, you've never disappointed, sometimes made me laugh and always made me think.
It's been a pleasure to see someone willing to make a stand in what has been an 8 year long nightmare.
Last night was a warning shot across the bow of the extreme right and the fundies who would prefer that we all live in a corporate/fascist/ theocratic state and a message that we aren't taking it anymore.
You should see some of the right wing boards this morning.
They're having seizures.
Reaganism is finally in its death throes, and I hope that I live long enough to see it finally dead and buried.
It's going to be a tough road, but here's to brighter days ahead. . .

I have been trying to slay that evil beast since 1980! Ronnie Ray-gunz, as St. Joan Baez called him at Woodstock, was the slickest liar the GOP has ever produced. It was at the GOP National Convention in Houston, 1992, when it was said of him: "He made us feel good about ourselves". I almost puked at the time.

My response to that line is: both masturbation and alcohol make one feel good temporarily! Of the two, 'masturbation' has no lingering bad or lethal effects as does 'trickle down theory'.

The moral of the story: the nation would have been better off with a REAL jerk off!

It's going to be a tough road, but here's to brighter days ahead.
